Supporting Victims

If you have been affected by crime, help is available. Support is funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), working with a range of specialist organisations across South Yorkshire to ensure victims receive the emotional, practical, and ongoing support they need. Support is available whether or not the crime has been reported to the police.

The priorities set out in the Police and Crime Plan cannot be achieved by South Yorkshire Police alone, but through a holistic approach involving all agencies with a duty to protect vulnerable people, tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, and provide a service to help victims cope and recover.

Police and Crime Commissioners are responsible for commissioning local support services for victims of crime, and for funding organisations and projects that help meet the aims of the police and crime plan. ‘Commissioning’ refers to the cycle of assessing need and, where identified, designing and securing the appropriate service, then reviewing performance and outcomes for South Yorkshire residents.
