VICTIM SUPPORT CONTINUE DELIVERING VITAL SUPPORT SERVICES ACROSS SOUTH YORKSHIRE

Victims of crime across South Yorkshire will continue to have access to high quality, tailored support following the award of £6.9 million to Victim Support to deliver multi crime referral and support services across the region.The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has awarded a new contract to Victim Support, ensuring the continuation and expansion of essential services for victims of crime across the region.
The service will provide advice, advocacy and emotional support to help people across the county cope with the immediate impact of crime, recover from harm, and rebuild their confidence and wellbeing. Support will be available to victims of all crime types, including children and young people, victims of non domestic abuse stalking, and those affected by fraud.
The award builds on Victim Support’s strong track record of delivering services locally and reflects a continued commitment to ensuring victims have access to high quality, trauma informed care.
Victim Support’s successful bid highlighted strong partnership working at both local and national levels, along with a commitment to building on trusted relationships across South Yorkshire. Its proposal set out clear commitments to local employment, promoting mental health and wellbeing; and advancing equality, diversity and inclusion.
Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kilvinder Vigurs, said: “Victims of crime deserve access to timely, compassionate and effective support, no matter the type of crime they have experienced. This continued investment in Victim Support ensures that people across South Yorkshire can access the help they need to cope, recover and move forward.
“Victim Support has demonstrated a strong understanding of victims’ needs, excellent partnership working and a clear commitment to delivering high quality services locally. I am pleased we can continue working together to support victims across our communities.”
The enhanced service will include:
• Expanded specialist support for victims of fraud
• Dedicated services for children and young people
• Increased provision for victims of non domestic abuse stalking
• A continued focus on mental health, wellbeing and equality
These developments aim to improve access to services, strengthen outcomes for victims, and ensure individuals feel informed, supported and able to move forward after the crime
