MAYOR - SELF-EMPLOYED CANNOT AFFORD TO WAIT FOR SUPPORT
Published 27 January 2021 at 2:51pm
Responding to an Institute for Fiscal Studies report on Government support for self-employed workers, Mayor of the Sheffield City Region, Dan Jarvis said:
“This report is clear and compelling evidence that the Chancellor can and should act to save more families from losing their livelihoods through no fault of their own.
“Self-employed workers, freelancers and small businesses will be crucial to South Yorkshire’s economic fightback from COVID, yet around 68,000 people in our region are currently excluded from any Government support.
“The Government must step up. Waiting for the vaccine roll-out and the easing of restrictions and hoping for the best is not an effective strategy to support workers and businesses. For many, that will be too late. The Chancellor cannot afford to delay any longer to end the fairness for the excluded.”
