SUPERTRAM ENGINEERING WORKS FROM SATURDAY 29 JUNE

Published 24 June 2024 at 10:59am

As part of ongoing investment into the Supertram network essential engineering works will be taking place from Saturday 29 June until Sunday 30 June.

In March, South Yorkshire Supertram came back under public control after 27 years. South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is now investing around £5m this year to future proof and extend the lifespan of our tram network.

The works, on Holme Lane in Hillsborough, are to replace a broken rail, and are essential to ensure trams can continue to run safely and form a small part of a wider investment in the system.

The new rail will give passengers a better travel experience - improving comfort and reducing noise in areas where tracks are currently worn – as well as reducing the risk of closure of the network on safety grounds.

Letters have been posted to affected residents and businesses, notifying them of the proposed works and any disruption that may be caused.

Further improvements to South Yorkshire’s Supertram network, made possible through SYMCA’s multi-million-pound investment, will take place over the summer.

How will the works affect tram services?

To allow the essential engineering works to take place tram services will be subject to alteration from Saturday 29 June until Sunday 30 June inclusive.

During the works, services will operate as follows

  • Blue Route tram services will run between Halfway and Middlewood at the normal frequency of up to 12 minutes but with amendments to the timetable. Malin Bridge, tram stop will not be served
  • Yellow Route tram services will operate at the normal frequency of up to 12 minutes but with amendments to the timetable
  • Purple Route and Tram Train services will operate as normal

Alternative Bus services

For many journeys there are existing bus routes that offer alternative travel options to the tram including:

  • Service 61 and 62 – Malin Bridge – Hillsborough Interchange
  • Services 81 and 82 – Malin Bridge – Hillsborough - Sheffield city centre

Over the weekend, whilst the works take place, valid Supertram tickets will be accepted on First bus services 81 and 82 between Malin Bridge and Hillsborough Interchange.

Our Journey Planner can help people plan their journey during the works. Some services may be subject to minor diversions or delays as a result of the traffic management for the engineering works on Holme Lane.
