GETTING READY FOR CHANGES TO THE BUS NETWORK 2027-2029

Have your say on South Yorkshire's buses
What’s happening?

Over the past year we’ve been listening to passengers, communities and local organisations to understand what matters most when it comes to bus journeys.

You’ve told us you want buses that turn up on time, go where you need them to, and are simple to use.

Working with local councils, we’ve used this feedback to propose improvements that will be the first changes you see when we take responsibility for buses from September 2027.

The improvements will focus on:

  • More reliable buses that arrive when you expect them to
  • Simple timetables that are easy to read and plan around
  • Better evening and weekend services
  • Making it easier to travel by bus to hospitals, workplaces, town centres, schools, colleges and the shops

This is a huge change to how buses are run in South Yorkshire and the work will take until 2029 to complete, to read more about this project visit the bus franchising homepage.

What will and won't change at first

When buses come back under public control, the network will stay broadly the same at first. We’ll make targeted improvements to some routes and timetables, but we’re not redesigning the whole network.

As we learn more about how people use the bus, we’ll use that data to shape future improvements to the bus network across South Yorkshire.

What we are trying to understand

This survey sets out some of the first improvements we’ll make when buses come under public control in South Yorkshire from September 2027. Your feedback will help us understand whether we’re focusing on the right priorities for day one, and as we continue to improve the network over time.

How to take part

Everyone is welcome to share their views. We’re especially keen to hear from people who live, work or travel in and around South Yorkshire by bus.

If you’d like to respond on behalf of a community group or organisation, you will be able to let us know when you complete the survey.

What happens next

Your feedback will be reviewed alongside our continued work with local councils to finalise the first improvements you’ll start to see, when buses come under public control.
