SKILLS AND EMPLOYABILITY STRATEGIES
Building a Skills System That Works for South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire is committed to creating a stronger, fairer and more inclusive economy by transforming how we support people into, through and within work. These three documents set out our shared vision, strategy and delivery plans for achieving that.
- The Skills Strategy outlines our long-term ambitions for improving skills, employment and productivity across the region.
- The Implementation Plan sets out how we will deliver the strategy over the next three years, with clear actions, partnerships and measures of success.
- The Get South Yorkshire Working Plan is a ten-year programme focused on increasing our employment rate to 80 percent. It brings together health, employment and skills support to help more residents access good work and thrive.
Together, they form a roadmap for change, built on collaboration, evidence and a commitment to opportunity for all.
Skills Strategy Implementation Plan
The Skills Strategy Implementation Plan sets out how South Yorkshire will deliver its Skills Strategy between 2024 and 2027. It outlines the practical steps, partnerships and investment priorities that will turn strategic ambition into action. Delivery will be shaped by local context, with each of South Yorkshire’s four authorities tailoring activity to meet the needs of their residents and employers.
The plan includes seven flagship programmes that will drive progress across the region, supported by a robust governance framework and clear measures of success. It is designed to be flexible and responsive, adapting to changing economic conditions, workforce needs and national policy. Together, we are building a skills system that works for everyone.
Get South Yorkshire Working Plan
The Get South Yorkshire Working Plan is a ten-year strategy outlining our approach to increasing the region’s employment rate to 80 percent. It brings together health, employment and skills support to help more residents access good work, stay in work and progress in their careers. The plan builds on the success of Pathways to Work and reflects South Yorkshire’s ambition to lead nationally on integrated, person-centred support.
Developed in partnership with local authorities, the NHS, Jobcentre Plus and the voluntary sector, the plan sets out a bold approach to system change. It focuses on prevention, empowerment and progression, ensuring that services are joined up and responsive to local needs. This is about creating opportunity for all and unlocking the full potential of our communities.
