ZERO EMISSION BUSES (ZEBRA) – FUNDING BID TO GOVERNMENT
Published 6 October 2021 at 3:36pm
On 31 January 2022, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority submitted a Full Business Case to the government’s Zero Emission Bus Area (ZEBRA) scheme, which aims to deliver at least 4,000 new zero-emission buses in England, as part of a £15 million plan to introduce 27 zero-emission buses and supporting charging infrastructure across the region.
Our bid is a key stepping-stone towards our regional Transport Strategy goal of a zero-carbon public transport network by 2040.
SYMCA owns four vehicles outright, which are already in service on the two Sheffield Connect services.
A further 23 new single-decker electric buses operated by Stagecoach on services 221/22x across Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham will be introduced in June 2024. Charging infrastructure has been installed at Stagecoach’s Rawmarsh depot and at Sheffield Interchanges, with Rotherham Interchange to follow.
