SOUTH YORKSHIRE SECURES MULTI YEAR MINISTRY OF JUSTICE FUNDING TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF CRIME

Victims and survivors of crime across South Yorkshire will continue to benefit from vital emotional and practical support services following a multi-year funding commitment from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).The MoJ has confirmed up to two-year extensions to both the Core Victims Grant and the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence (DA/SV) Support Grant, ensuring local services can continue delivering specialist support.
This funding will be used to provide or commission dedicated emotional and practical support services for victims and survivors of crime.
The MoJ is providing £1,757,686.35 for 2026/27, increasing to £1,792,840.08 in 2027/28. In addition, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) has contributed extra funding to further support this work. The funding enables the commissioning of specialist support services for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence across South Yorkshire.
During a period when MoJ grant levels were reduced, SYMCA provided funding to ensure essential victim support services could continue. This new multi-year funding provides much needed stability, allowing providers to continue meeting the complex needs of victims and survivors.
Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kilvinder Vigurs said: “We remain committed to placing victims and survivors at the centre of our work and ensuring services have the stability they need to deliver crucial support.
“Supporting victims and survivors is at the heart of everything we do in South Yorkshire. The services we commission play a crucial role in helping people cope with the immediate impact of crime and in supporting them on the longer journey of recovery.
“Across the region, we work closely with specialist providers who offer emotional support, therapeutic interventions, practical guidance and advocacy, ensuring that every individual receives the right help at the right time.
“This funding strengthens our ability to maintain and enhance those vital services. It enables us to continue working in partnership with local organisations who understand the needs of our communities and provide high quality, trauma informed support. By investing in these services, we reaffirm our commitment to building safer, stronger communities, where victims are heard, supported, and empowered.
“We encourage anyone affected by crime, or anyone who knows someone who may need support, to reach out to local victim support services, seek help and make use of the dedicated support available across South Yorkshire.”
SYMCA will now work with commissioned providers to confirm allocations and ensure continuity of support from April 2026 onwards.
