PUBLIC SCRUTINY BOARD STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN COMMUNITIES AND POLICING IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE
Published 21 November 2025 at 3:10pm
South Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime has reaffirmed her commitment to openness and accountability in policing with the second meeting of the Public Scrutiny Board.
The Board provides a public forum where senior officers from South Yorkshire Police (SYP) present progress reports and respond to questions from the Deputy Mayor and members of the public.
Public meetings are held quarterly, each focusing on specific themes, with the next Board held on 3rd December at 2pm.
Kilvinder Vigurs, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, said: “The Public Scrutiny Board is about giving our communities a real voice in policing. It is about working together; communities, policing and local leaders, to make South Yorkshire safer.
“It is a forum for open dialogue and provides an essential platform to ensure that policing in South Yorkshire is not only effective in tackling crime but also efficient in the use of resources. It is a space where decisions, performance and priorities are examined openly, giving our communities a voice and enabling discussion on the issues that matter most. Through this process, we build transparency and trust.”
The upcoming session will examine force performance and policing budgets. There will also be a special focus on road safety and rural crime.
The Board will continue to:
- Review performance against the Police and Crime Plan
- Scrutinise key issues across all SYP activity
- Address emerging and urgent matters
- Promote transparency and public trust in policing
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and submit questions in advance. Questions must be submitted in writing at least five working days before the meeting, be under 100 words and include your name and contact details. To register or submit a question, email PolicingAndReform@southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk.
