ROLLING OPEN CALL FOR BROWNFIELD HOUSING FUND LAUNCHED - EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST INVITED

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s (SYMCA) Brownfield Housing Fund is a Government funded programme designed to develop more new homes by bringing unused brownfield land back into development.

Since 2020, SYMCA the has received £53 million from the Department for Levelling up, Housing & Communities (DLHUC) aimed to enable the development of at least 3,300 new homes across South Yorkshire with starts on site to commence by end of March 2025.

The programme is now fully allocated pending further approvals and viability assessments.

Rolling Open Call opportunity

SYMCA has agreed to commence a rolling open call in the event of securing additional housing funding from DLUHC for a further 5 years, to develop a longer terms pipeline of potential sites for new housing.

There is now an opportunity for Local Authorities, Housing Associations, private sector developers and other housing developers to submit an Expression of Interest for future housing funding.

SYMCA will prioritise schemes based on how well they deliver against the principles of Stronger, Greener, Fairer, set out in its Strategic Economic Plan. The risks and overall deliverability of schemes will also be evaluated.

All schemes will be assessed in accordance with the MCA Assurance Framework(PDF, 1.9MB) to ensure due diligence and value for money.

Schemes that adopt innovations and/or raise the quality and standards of homes across South Yorkshire, along with affordable housing options, would be particularly welcomed. We are also interested in those brownfield housing schemes that have potential starts on site by the end of March next year.
