ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AWARENESS WEEK: DEPUTY MAYOR JOINS POLICE PATROLS
Published 4 July 2025 at 2:00pm
As part of Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week, South Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Kilvinder Vigurs, joined officers from the South Yorkshire Police Grip Team on a walk-about in Sheffield, reinforcing the region’s commitment to tackling ASB and making communities safer.
The patrols, conducted under the Home Office-funded Grip Programme, focused on hotspot policing and problem-solving in areas most affected by ASB. The initiative led to successful stop and searches, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted, intelligence-led policing.
Deputy Mayor, Kilvinder said: “ASB can come in many forms that affect people's lives, the community and environment on a daily basis.
“We know that ASB can have a significant impact on people, leaving them feeling unsafe. This nationally-led awareness week gives us a chance to show our local communities the work we do all year round to tackle ASB.”
The Grip Programme is a strategic approach that combines data-driven hotspot identification with visible policing and community engagement. It aims to reduce violence and disorder by focusing resources where they are most needed.
During the awareness week, South Yorkshire Police and local councils are also highlighting the importance of reporting ASB.
Kilvinder added: “Incidents of ASB often go unreported, so I urge the public to contact the police or local council to help build a better picture of ASB in South Yorkshire. This helps with resourcing and identifies areas in which targeted action may be needed.”
