INFRASTRUCTURE INQUIRY 2024
South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard called for an inquiry to learn lessons from the policy environment that enabled the abrupt closure of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
The Inquiry was led by an independent Chair, Martin McKervey, supported by a secretariat provided at arm’s length by the Mayoral Combined Authority.
Martin McKervey said: “This Inquiry is future-facing and concerns infrastructure across South Yorkshire. It is very important that the Inquiry is, and is seen as being, even-handed, transparent, and that I am able to conduct my work independently. I am determined and committed to ensuring it is open, balanced, fair, and respectful towards the full range of views both in and outside the region.
"While I recognise that the closure of the Doncaster Sheffield Airport has had a real impact on people and communities across South Yorkshire, it is important to underline that this Inquiry is not about the closure of the airport. I want as many people as possible to be able to contribute to the discussion about the infrastructure needs of South Yorkshire.”
Three public sessions were held in January and February 2024. Terms of Reference are available.
