"I’m doing everything I can to get the government to give us a fair funding deal, because bus services are vital. Not just for our economy, so we can see our families, get to school or to work, but as a means of allowing people to access opportunity wherever it might be. That is even more true when we are facing a climate crisis. We should be investing in buses.

I am determined to fight these cuts, so we can have the public transport system we deserve."

Mayor Oliver Coppard

Previous events

South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, is currently actively campaigning to improve the public transport network across our region.

From August 2023, the Mayor has been visiting communities across South Yorkshire, alongside holding virtual meetings, to talk about his plans for developing a fair deal for buses from the UK Government.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us for the meetings that have taken place across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, including in:

  • Sheffield City Centre
  • Auckley
  • Penistone
  • Rawmarsh
  • Wath on Dearne
  • Woodseats
  • Great Houghton
  • Swallownest
  • Cantley
  • Maltby
  • Stocksbridge
  • Norton
  • Hexthorpe
  • Crosspool
  • Stannington
  • Chapeltown
  • Cudworth
  • Stainforth
  • Barnsley Town Centre
  • Doncaster City Centre
  • Goldthorpe
  • Hoyland
  • Rotherham Town Centre
  • Worrall.

During these meetings the Mayor has discussed what we are responsible for as a Mayoral Combined Authority, and what our plans are for bringing the bus network back under public control through the franchising assessment process.

We have listened to many stories from our residents about the unacceptable conditions and services that they have had to endure as they journey across our region. If you would like to share your story with the Mayor, or would like to be kept up-to-date with future plans and the progress of the franchising assessment process, please fill in the form below.
