Help shape plans for a brand new Supertram fleet
What's happening?
We’re making it easier for more people to choose public transport.
From Monday 10 August to Friday 18 September 2026, we’re asking for your views on travelling by Supertram and what you’d like future journeys to look like.
We want to hear your thoughts on plans for a brand-new Supertram fleet as part of the South Yorkshire People’s Network. Tell us what matters most to you, from step-free access and seating layouts to space for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bikes. We’d also like your views on features such as air conditioning, onboard information screens, safety measures and other improvements that could make travelling easier, more comfortable and more reliable.
Your feedback will help shape the future of Supertram, so whether you travel every day or only occasionally, we’d love to hear from you.
The proposals
A new generation of trams is being planned for South Yorkshire.
After more than 30 years in service, the current Supertram fleet is reaching the point where it needs to be replaced. Newer tram designs can offer a better travel experience, with features that improve comfort, accessibility and convenience for passengers.
As plans for the next fleet are developed, your feedback will help us understand what people value most when travelling and where improvements can make the biggest difference.
The new trams will be an important part of the South Yorkshire People’s Network, helping to create a more connected public transport system across the region. By bringing different ways of travelling together, the network aims to make everyday journeys simpler and more convenient for the people who live, work and visit South Yorkshire.

The new fleet procurement programme is funded through the Transport for City Regions (TCR) funding stream and will play a key role in delivering a more connected, accessible and reliable public transport network across South Yorkshire.
Public drop-in events
To find more information about the proposals and see our exhibition, please join one of our public drop-in events where you can view creative fleet mock-ups, explore proposed design concepts and speak directly to members of the project team will be available to listen to your views, answer questions and provide further detail.

How to take part
You can complete the survey online or collect a paper copy and prepaid envelope from the customer service desk at Sheffield Interchange, Meadowhall Interchange and Sheffield Railway Station.

Next steps
Once the engagement closes on Friday 18 September, all feedback received through the survey and exhibitions will help inform the specification for the new fleet before SYMCA goes out to tender and invites manufacturers to bid to deliver trams for The South Yorkshire People’s Network.
A summary of feedback received and how it has been considered will be published following the completion of the engagement.
