Community Safety

Community Partnerships bring together organisations, key local partners across South Yorkshire to work collaboratively on local priorities and improve outcomes.

The Community Safety Partnerships in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield play a vital role in coordinating the local response to violence, crime, and wider community safety issues. They bring together key partners including the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), local authorities, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, the NHS, the National Probation Service, and voluntary and community sector organisations.

Working together, partners identify local challenges, share intelligence, and develop coordinated approaches that focus on prevention, early intervention, and supporting safer, stronger communities. Each Community Safety Partnership produces a local Violence Reduction Action Plan, setting out how partners will deliver activity at a local level to address the underlying causes of violence, reduce harm, and improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

Through this partnership approach, SYMCA and its partners are helping to create safer neighbourhoods, tackle inequalities that can contribute to violence, and ensure that local solutions are shaped by the needs of local communities.
